  2.                         BOOK OUTLINE
  3.  
  4. The book outline serves as the primary screen for printouts.
  5. You  may create reports using any combination of features of
  6. FTJ for only one individual, a group of individuals, a  sub-
  7. group or a complete book containing all individuals.
  8.  
  9. A  title page will be produced if any of the title, subtitle
  10. or author information is not blank.
  11.  
  12.                BOOK OUTLINE CODES AND OPTIONS
  13.  
  14. Using the codes and options listed below,  you  can  compose
  15. books, booklets and other printouts in almost any format.
  16.  
  17. PAGE  -  Start page numbering with the number in the options
  18. field. The default is page 1. If the number is 0, pages will
  19. not be numbered.
  20.  
  21. HEAD  -  The  heading  will  be centered in upper case, bold
  22. print at the top of the next page or, if you are  using  the
  23. two-sided  print  option, on the next odd-numbered page. The
  24. heading will then be entered into the Table of Contents.
  25.  
  26. FILE - Print the file  named  in  the  options  field.  This
  27. should  be  used  in conjunction with a heading as an intro-
  28. duction to each section of your book.
  29.  
  30. TREE - Print trees and data  as  specified  in  the  options
  31. field.
  32.  
  33. BIO - Print biographies as specified in the options field.
  34.  
  35. GRPS - Print family group sheets as specified in the options
  36. field.
  37.  
  38. REF - Print references as specified in the options field.
  39.  
  40. AHN - Print Ahnentafel charts as specified  in  the  options
  41. field.
  42.  
  43. DESC  -  Print tabular descendant charts as specified in the
  44. options field.
  45.  
  46. BOX - Print box type descendant charts as specified  in  the
  47. options field.
  48.  
  49. TRAD  -  Print traditional genealogy as specified in the op-
  50. tions field.
  51.  
  52. FORM - Print FTJ information form as specified  in  the  op-
  53. tions field.
  54.  
  55. NAML  -  Print  the  name  list  as specified in the options
  56. field.
  57.  
  58. AUD - Print the audit of missing information as specified in
  59. the options field.
  60.  
  61. MISC - Print the miscellaneous information.
  62.  
  63. TIME - Print the time line.
  64.  
  65. TC - Print the Table of Contents.
  66.  
  67. INDX - Print the Index.
  68.  
  69. BBL - Print the bibliography.

  71. The  options field is provided to supply additional informa-
  72. tion to some codes. It may contain a reference number  or  a
  73. list  of  numbers  separated  by  spaces. You may also use a
  74. combination of keywords to select the information that  will
  75. be included.

  77.                       OPTIONS KEYWORDS
  78.  
  79. SORT  DOBS  -  Sort  the  information  by  dates  of  birth.
  80. (default)
  81.  
  82. SORT NAMES - Sort the information by surname.
  83.  
  84. SORT NUMBER - Sort the information by reference number.
  85.  
  86. TC LONG - Print the names and numbers of the key individuals
  87. as a subheading in the Table of Contents. (default)
  88.  
  89. TC SHORT - Don't print names in the Table of Contents.
  90.  
  91. SUBGROUP  x  -  Use  only  names  flagged  with the subgroup
  92. character (x).
  93.  
  94. EXPAND - Expand the information to include  all  names  that
  95. have appeared in the previous codes.
  96.  
  97. ALL - Use all the names in the name list. (default)
  98.  
  99. NGSQ  -  This  option  is  only  used  with  the traditional
  100. genealogies to indicate  that  you  will  use  the  National
  101. Genealogical  Society Quarterly numbering system. If NGSQ is
  102. not specified, the names will be numbered using the REGISTER
  103. system.
  104.  
  105. BLANK  -  This option only applies to the FORM code. It will
  106. cause a blank information form to be printed.

  110. The above codes and options are used as a  command  language
  111. to the book printing function of Family Tree Journal. Except
  112. for the Index  and  Table  of  Contents,  which  are  always
  113. printed  last,  the codes will be executed in the order that
  114. you specify. Not  all  options  apply  to  every  code.  The
  115. default  for most codes is all individuals sorted by date of
  116. birth and a long Table of Contents with names.
  117.  
  118. Most of the main sections will start on  a  new  page  (odd-
  119. numbered  page  for  2-sided).  The options remain in effect
  120. until superseded by a subsequent option entry.
  121.  
  122. Because of the cryptic nature of the  codes,  you  may  also
  123. enter  comments into the options field to make the book out-
  124. line easier to understand. Comments are introduced with a  /
  125. character.  Anything  entered after the / will be ignored by
  126. the print routine. Also, if the code  field  is  blank,  the
  127. options  field  will be ignored and may be used for comments
  128. (without the /).

  130. Using PAGE 0 will cause the DESC, AHN and BOX charts to have
  131. no page breaks at all. This is useful when you would like to
  132. create wall charts. Most of the other codes will  split  the
  133. pages  but  not  print page numbers when PAGE is 0. Use this
  134. when you would like to insert  new  sections  into  existing
  135. books  without  reprinting  the  entire book. Obviously, the
  136. Index and Table of Contents will not be of  any  value  when
  137. PAGE is set to 0!

  141.                        FUNCTION KEYS
  142.  
  143. The F4 key will format and print a single sided book.
  144.  
  145. The F5 key will print the book on both sides of your paper.
  146.  
  147. The  F6  key  will check the validity of the dates of birth,
  148. marriage and death. Errors, such as someone being  shown  as
  149. born  before  their  parents,  will be printed and a warning
  150. message will be displayed on the screen.
  151.  
  152. The F7 key will fill in  the  book  outline  screen  with  a
  153. previously saved template file.
  154.  
  155. The  F8  key saves your outline as a template file. The base
  156. file name defaults to the current base name  for  your  data
  157. files.

  160. The F9 key will allow you to change the setup.
  161.  
  162. The F10 key will clear the outline.
  163.  
  164. The  name for the template files may be any valid file name.
  165. The extension is always .TEM.
